The New Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Maps Have Been Published

An Announcement from Professor McDermott

After two years of hard work and considerably more time conducting field work and research, Tom Rabenhorst and myself have now finished our production of the C & O Canal Maps. They are now available for purchase on the web. (www. TrailMapsEtc.com) These full-color presentations contain much informative and educational information. For example, the authors have identified the locations of the remaining 27 lockhouses along the canal. Originally, the system contained 59 structures. Another interesting depiction is the location of all composite and drop-gate locks. The drop-gate locks were located in heavy traffic areas of the canal. Composite locks were situated upstream where good quarry stone was unavailable.  Other information:There are two map sheets each with a map printed on each side of the paper. Each sheet measures 16 x 22 inches and is folded for your convenience. Each map easily fits into a shirt or other pocket. The maps contain considerable information relating to the history, geography and geology found along our beloved canal. The folded map set costs: $15 plus shipping. Tax must be included if purchased within the state of Md. A special collectors edition, non-folded, and printed with only one map per side (four sheets total) is available for $25 plus shipping. Tax must be included if purchased within the state of Md. The latter set is shipped rolled in a tube. If you prefer, you may contact me directly at MapMcD@AOL. for additional information or to order the maps. I will get them out promptly to you.
